68 Shasta Compact Interior

I thought I would try and take some better pictures of the interior of our little trailer. I can't tell you how cozy and cute it is inside. Though I so badly want to decorate it. I'm just trying to figure out how without altering anything original. For starters, those uglee orange cushions I'm going to recover. But I'm going to leave the original fabric underneath. Also while I love the little cowboy curtains, I need to color coordinate so I'm thinking red fabric for the cushions? Hmm, have to think on that. The stove and icebox are green. You don't know how bad I want to repaint those! I'd love to do a robin egg blue or even pink! How fun would that be?

If I knew that I was going to keep this little trailer forever I'd paint the paneling. I've heard you really want to leave them as original as possible. So I'll decorate it as much as I can without altering anything. I'm already scoping out other Shasta's, much to my hubby's chagrin. I'd like an older "canned ham" style one. Maybe a 16 footer that's just a tad bigger (:

Anyway, here is the inside of my tiny little palace (hee hee) on wheels. I love just sitting in it. Not sure what it is but there is a cozy feeling in there and I can't wait until our next camping trip in this cutie.

1968 Shasta Compact Trailer

I've always been a fan of vintage things and travel trailers are certainly included in that. Who doesn't love the "canned ham" look of these retro rigs going down the road? Or the small charming space within their metal doors? OK, well maybe some may not find them quite as endearing as I do, but I couldn't resist getting one of my own.

Introducing our 13 foot 1968 Shasta Compact. It's tiny on the outside but amazingly can sleep up to 5 on the inside. It has a bottom bed (where the table and benches are) that fold down and it's larger than a king size bed. Then it has the pull out top bunk that will sleep 2 kids easily. This particular Shasta is in original condition and great condition at that. Sorry it's not for sale.

I love the vintage fabric used for the curtians and pillows. Isn't it darling? I do plan on having the seat cushions covered over. Not recovered, but just covered over in order to retain the original seat cushion fabric.

We hope to enjoy many a camping trips in our little trailer. It's so cozy and tows like it's not even there. It weighs only 1200 lbs.

Antique Underwood Typewriter

I wanted to share with you all my latest find. I've always wanted an antique typewriter. I envisioned one sitting upon an older desk just waiting for someone to type a lovely letter to a long lost relative or friend. So here she is...my old Underwood. Right now she's not in working condition as she needs ribbon. Though I doubt I'll ever get any and this will just be a display item (Like I really needed one more thing to display right? lol!). In any case, I just love it!

My new obsession: Canned Ham

Ok, I know what some of you are thinking. No, I'm not talking about that kind of ham. I'm speaking of these little darlings...

Is that cute or what!? I have to tell you I do love camping but I got over the whole tent camping concept years ago after borrowing my Mom's RV for a weekend. There was no going back to "roughing" it after that.

So what's a girl to do? The answer is easy! If you combine my love for vintage and camping you come up with one of these 1960-something Shasta canned ham trailers. I want one so bad!! They are hard to come by though in restored condition. Not to mention if you do find one, the price tags aren't anything to sneeze at. But I imagine myself and my little family heading out on the open road towing one of these compact little "homes" behind us.

During my obsession...err, I mean research I came across this neat blog that takes you through one family's journey of restoring a vintage Shasta trailer. They did a fantastic job and I would love to have one like it. Check out the interior photos. Yes, it's tiny. But the use of sleeping space is very good with the over head bunk bed. The way I see it is most of the time we would be enjoying the great outdoors anyway, but these are easy to store and you don't need a huge SUV to tow one. That's right up my alley! Now if I can just convince hubby that we truly need one of these. I'll keep you posted on my progress of wearing him down (:

Oh and before I forget, I also want to join Sisters On The Fly. You have to check out their website and be sure and look at the gallery to see hundreds of these cute little trailers.

A visitor of the furry kind

This fellow is sitting on some old fencing we have on the side of the garage today. My husband is slowing working on chopping it up and burning it in burn barrel. I'm not a huge fan of Possums. For the most part they are pretty docile as long as you don't go up and try and touch them. They do have some vicious teeth. We were within 2-3 feet of him and he was just sitting there checking us out.

Anyway, so I go outside to look for something out in the garage and my neighbor is out there feeding him Ritz crackers. You can see she stuck some in the fence for him. She's the sweetest lady, an animal lover and the best neighbor. I do wish she wouldn't feed him as he may decide to stay and our Pugs might think he's a new friend and playmate...these things can bite and bite bad.

Christmas is coming...is He your King?

Unlike last year, this year I really am looking forward to Christmas. Even though this year will be much different than last year. There will be less gifts given and less money spent. But I think the source of my joy even though our gift giving will be more meager is because of my King! Is He your King too?

I love this video...while words can't describe such a King, this is the closest you'll get, this side of Heaven.

It's a wonderful life

Can you believe in all of my 38 years, I have never watched It's a wonderful life? Until now that is. I watched it last night and it was a wonderful classic movie with a great message! It's little reminders such as reading something or watching something that can trigger a grateful heart.

I'm feeling very grateful. Yes, it is indeed a wonderful life.

Would you like to watch the full movie? You can you know online. Just click the image below. Enjoy.

Hubby For Sale

For Sale: One 40 - something, 6' 3" male who can be described as well educated, tall, dark hair with most of it still there. He is a very good house hubby that will do laundry, dishes, fold clothes and make minor house repair.

While I have become attached to him and do love him, I have decided that I have to part with him due to a blatant act of deception. No it's not what you think! But just so you know what you are getting I'll share the latest experience with you.

He knows how much I hate going to the dentist and over the years he has proceeded to trick me in more minor ways such as getting me to go on drives with him only to find that our destination ends up being at the dentist office. I've fallen for this trick a number of times. Simply baited by his charm. Well NO MORE!

But that isn't the worse of it. Today I had an appointment at the dentist to get a new crown after having broke one of my back molars. A simple procedure or so I thought that consisted of them creating a mold of my tooth so the lab could make me a porcelain crown. Well, there was nothing simple about it and the husband is guilty of NOT telling me of all what was involved, including but not limited to; shots of novicaine, drilling, making a mold, more drilling, more shots of novicaine, etc....you get the point.

You know what's worse than the fact that he didn't tell me or at least warn me about this procedure? That the dentist office staff and the dentist himself all had a $50 bet going on if I'd actually come in today for the appointment! I could choke my husband and was silently cursing him the first time the dentist fired up that drill. Do you all know that sound? I swear it's worse than fingernails on a chaulkboard.

My husband says I'm just a big baby and maybe I am but only when it comes to dentists. In any case, that was the last straw and he is now available for sale cheap to any unsuspecting, Oops I mean interested parties. I was going to put him on Craigslist, but thought I'd try my blog first.

Any takers? Price is VERY negotiable.

My latest Obsession

I've wanted a piano for a few years now. I've always had a desire to play and figured it's never too late to learn...right?

So I found this darling upright on Craigslist the other day for...now get this....$50!!!! It's smaller than a regular sized piano. Almost by half...well, maybe 3/4 the size. It has 64 keys I believe. It's adorable! I need to get it tuned but it's not too bad and can be played as it is.

I'm teaching myself to play A River Flows in You by Yiruma. It's such a beautiful piece...like a lullaby.

Depression Cooking with Clara

I came across Clara's cooking videos and wanted to share them with you all. I suppose in one sense they are appropriate to what's going on in our economy. But also listening to some of her stories about what it was like for her and her family during the depression really causes one to pause for a moment and be reminded of just how blessed we are. Sure times may be a bit lean and they may even get leaner, but we'll survive especially if you learn how to cook like Clara had to back during the depression. Here is one of her videos on how to make the Poor Man's Meal and a link to several of her videos.

A little shocking revelation today

Now that I'm over the initial shock, I can share the news with you all. I'm going to be a grandmother...again! My first grandbaby is now 5 and lives out in Washington state. I just found out today that my 21 year old son and his longtime girlfriend are expecting a baby. Oh my word! I preached to my son for a long time about not having children young but you know how that goes. I just worry about them all...she's in college to become an Architect and my son works full time for a large food company. But you know all I can do is be positive about this. This baby will be a blessing and I'm so excited to be able to be a part of it's life! I will help them in any way I can and hopefully "Nana" will get to babysit often. I'm sure there will be moments they will be greatful for that (:

Here is a picture of the soon to be proud parents.

What has kept me away

Sorry I haven't posted lately. We have been busy (and sleep deprived) because we have new Pug puppies. I thought I'd share their first pictures with you. We have 7 little munchkins (:

Things should get back to normal next week and I hope to do some sewing. I have a couple Christmas patterns dancing in my head that I need to get done.

My favorite American Idol Winner

I'm thrilled for David Cook winning the title of American Idol. However, David Archuleta is also a winner in my book. This young man can blow and will no doubt have a grand career in front of him. I hope that as he grows he will hang on to the humble heart. Good Luck David A. and I can't wait to hear your first album. This is one of my favorite videos of David A. Scroll down to the lower right and hit pause on my playlist before playing this video so you can hear it (;

My Little Garden

I decided to go ahead and plant a small garden this year. Granted, I was not blessed with green thumbs, so we'll see how this works out. My daughter and I planted lettuce, tomatos and strawberries. I think the garden turned out quite cute looking (:

Show Me Wednesday

I thought it would be fun to participate in the Show Me Wednesday. You can check out the other participants and more information about it on http://hazelruthes.blogspot.com/

This Wednesdays theme is bulletin boards. Here is mine. I recently purchased this awesome door from http://thenook.etsy.com/ over on Etsy. It's a large old window that they repurposed into this fabulous bulletin board. I just love it! It's quite handy too because it hangs next to my computer desk and if I need to pin up a reminder or jot down a note it's right there.
