Vintage Trailer Blog

Hi All,

Since summer is upon us I'm not doing quite as many creative things just because I'm distracted with getting outdoors. But that doesn't mean I'm not doing other creative things such as decorating our vintage trailers.

I wanted to invite you to follow my other blog all about our two Vintage Shasta trailers. Follow me as I renovate and decorate them. I'm partial, but I have to say they are turning out pretty darn cute! Creative Times Magazine is going to have a special feature in the July/Aug issue featuring our small Shasta Compact trailer as well as some other really neat canned ham style trailers.

So if you want, hop over to http://daisyshasta.blogspot.com and follow me on this adventure!

1968 Shasta Compact Trailer

I've always been a fan of vintage things and travel trailers are certainly included in that. Who doesn't love the "canned ham" look of these retro rigs going down the road? Or the small charming space within their metal doors? OK, well maybe some may not find them quite as endearing as I do, but I couldn't resist getting one of my own.

Introducing our 13 foot 1968 Shasta Compact. It's tiny on the outside but amazingly can sleep up to 5 on the inside. It has a bottom bed (where the table and benches are) that fold down and it's larger than a king size bed. Then it has the pull out top bunk that will sleep 2 kids easily. This particular Shasta is in original condition and great condition at that. Sorry it's not for sale.

I love the vintage fabric used for the curtians and pillows. Isn't it darling? I do plan on having the seat cushions covered over. Not recovered, but just covered over in order to retain the original seat cushion fabric.

We hope to enjoy many a camping trips in our little trailer. It's so cozy and tows like it's not even there. It weighs only 1200 lbs.

Redecorating the front porch ideas

So I've been doing a little redecorating on my front porch to create a little oasis for sipping iced tea and reading my favorite magazines. To start I decided to recover the cushions on this vintage metal crib that is now a day bed/couch. Instead of sewing it I took the easy route and used safety pins to secure the fabric in place...lots of safety pins. But the results turned out fabulous!

The next thing I needed was a little greenery for the ledge. I found these short crocks at a estate sale for $5 each. I bought four of them. Originally, I was going to go with cat grass but couldn't find any so I went with live moss. I think it adds just the perfect touch of green don't you?

The only thing I missing now is I'd like to find a narrow coffee table that I could redo by painting white and place it in front of the crib seat to have a place to set mail, magazines, etc., But it's coming along!

My Little Garden

I decided to go ahead and plant a small garden this year. Granted, I was not blessed with green thumbs, so we'll see how this works out. My daughter and I planted lettuce, tomatos and strawberries. I think the garden turned out quite cute looking (:

Porch Make Over

Last year we had this ugly green indoor outdoor carpeting on our front porch. So one day I ripped it all off, much to my husband's horror I might add. For the last year I've been racking my brain what to do with it as I really didn't want to lay down more carpeting, but to take off all of the boards and replace them would of been a job.

So I broke down and bought some grey-bluish carpeting and spent several hours on Saturday installed it. I think it turned out looking pretty darn good and the kicker is...I did it all by myself! So I had a proud little moment of my handiwork once it was done.

The next project is the brick steps that you see a peek of in the second picture. Anyone have a sledge hammer? I wonder if hubby would mind?? LOL!

Horticulturally Challenged

I admit I am truly horticulturally challenged. Yes, I had to go look up how spell that word (:

Anyhoo, I was at a antique flea market last weekend and brought home two large tomato plants. My husband saw them and said "Who buys tomato plants at a antique flea market?"...Men.

At least I think they are tomato plants. Wouldn't that be too funny (NOT) if I bought a couple potted weeds....or maybe Cannabis plants (Did I say that outloud?). No, they aren't that...not that I've ever seen any. OK, so I have but it was ages ago when I lived in Hawaii. The stuff grows wild there I swear. Well, the guy that sold these to me just better hope they start popping out tomatos or I'll have a dissapointed, crying 7 year old and then you know I'll just have to hunt him down. *grin*

Apparently they yield medium to large tomatos. So now that I have them what do I do with them? Do I leave them in the pot or do I need to transplant them? How often do you water them? The guy that sold them to me did say that the soil already has fertilizer mixed in. So that sounds like a good thing.

I've never had a knack for growing things. Even managed to kill a couple cactus in my day. So I could use some advice. My 7 year old is excited to see how many tomatos we'll get. So I REALLY don't want to end up killing these, so any advice is appreciated (:

Outdoor Decor

I love this old birdhouse! I found a old tall porch post that I attached it to, dug a deep hole and now it sits in our front yard. You can see part of our front porch in the background. I love sitting out there when the weather is nice and watching the birds.

Here's an old (HEAVY) wood door that sits on the porch. That green bench is great because it's just the right size to sit some treasures on. Makes a nice corner display.

This is one of my favorite scales! It has so much characture and looks so worn, I just love that!

Along our white picket fence out front we have a variety of birdhouses mounted on the fence. Here's one of my favorites.
